 Today, 15th August, India celebrates its 59th Independence Day.

I his famous speech – “Tryst with Destiny�, Pt. Jawarharlal Nehru, said – “When world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom�.

And indeed, on 15th August, 1947, Indians woke to independence from the British rule. With the joy of Independence, came immense grief as the land was didivded into two nations – Muslim Pakistan and a secular India. While Pakistan celebrates its day on 14th Aug, India does it on 15th August.

Some prominent personalities who sacrificed their lives for our Independence are Mahatma Gandhiji, Jawarharlal Nehru, Senapati Bapat, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh. These are just few names, but every Indian has done his/her bit to make India free from the British Raj.
